Messerschmitt Bf108 D-IDBT
Hi
Having come across a photo of Messerschmitt Bf 108B-1 WNr.1660 D-IDBT I began some research on the long history of this aircraft. At present the information is; o Built at Augsburg at some point in 1938 and registered D-IDBT. o Initially used by Margaret Gütermann of the sewing thread makers of Gütermann at Gutach. o Used by German embassy in London until September 1939. o Seized in UK and registered G-AFZO on 28/9/1939 o Used by RAF as ES955 with 24 sqn from Sept 1941. o Reregistered as G-AFZO at end of war. o Used privately by Lt.Col. HJ Aldington at Heston and reregistered G-AFRN on 19/9/1946. Aldington was a luxury car enthusiast and used the Bf 108 to visit Germany in 1946 to visit BMW plants and gather design plans to be used in post war motor car designs for the Automobile division of Bristol Aeroplane Company (Bristol Cars). o Sold in Switzerland April 1950 and reregistered HB-ESL. Privately owned? Other details unknown. o ? Reregistered SL-AAV. I cannot identify this aircraft registration. o Sold in Germany, registered D-EDIH , used privately by Bodo Klein of Siersburg from 1971. Aircraft crashed 1980 and not repaired. I would appreciate any further information. Ian |
