Michael Guy ROBIN is all I can find under Robin.

Also, it was Harold Gerrard Keslo WARING - that is, if these are your men?

Cannot locate Gillman. I will have another look a bit later.

Hallo Steve,

Max Ingram Freeman 39726
His initials are confirmed in the 1939 Squadron ORB. Promoted to F/O wef. 15 October 1939.

James Robert Gillman 23042
KIA with 83 Sqn. as a W/C on 5 May 1943. Oddly the CWGC has his service number listed incorrectly as '34042'. In September 1939 he was flying with 12 Squadron.

What about Sgt. Jupp ?

Regards,

Martin Gleeson.

Martin,

In January 1940 a S/Ldr Gillman was posted onto No.218 squadron. No initials are recorded, could this be J R Gillman. ?

Thanks for your help, JUPP !!!!!

I also have a P/O MEEK I am having problems with, any ideas chaps !

Re: 218 Squadron Pilots, France 1940

Hallo Steve,

The 12 Sqn. ORB records that F/Lt. Gillman was posted to 218 Sqn. on 27 December 1939. I think he first appears in the 218 Sqn. ORB during the early weeks of January 1940 when as S/L Gillman he takes command of the squadron while W/C Duggan goes on leave. He had only been promoted on January 1st ! Definitely your man.

There appears to be only one possible P/O Meek in the RAF at that time. He was Rothes John McKain Meek 41444. He became a P/O wef. 6 October 1939 but only joined 218 Sqn. during March 1940. I can only find one more reference to him. He relinquished his commission wef. 18 August 1941 due to ill-health.

Sgt Jupp is noted in the 218 Sqn. ORB for March 1940 that he was still sick in the UK.

All the above from the London Gazette, and the 12 and 218 Squadron ORBs.

Regards,

Martin.
