IV./KG 77 missions against England (1942)
Hello,
In the course of 1942 the IV./KG 77 was moved from Laon-Couvron to Bourges airfield. When she was there, this “Gruppe” carried out training missions while carrying out – in the same time - attacks against England. Somebody knows if this unit used a secondary or intermediate airfield as KG 27 (...when she was at Bourges) made it with the Dinard airfield in Brittany? Why IV./KG 77 didn’t stay at Laon-Couvron? The distance was shorter to reach London or south England. Best regards, Frederic |

Sorry that I cannot help you, Frederic, but perhaps one of the Forum's KG77 experts can. Perhaps the same experts can shed light on a KG77 raid on Sunderland, North-eastern England, on the night of 28-29 August 1942. KG77 lost at least one Ju88 (3Z+CB/wnr.144146) on that raid.

For example, I have 12 Staffel attacking Exeter 4 May 42 and 11 Staffel attacking Cowes the following night. Might I suggest that attacks on major targets like London would be quite a call for inexperienced crews. Of interest, the ones lost above were based at Bretigny

Thank you for your message Bill. I hope that someone will be able to answer my questions (…and yours). Warmest regards from France. Frederic
