Hans-Jürgen Borchers fate

Hi

Oberleutnant Hans-Jürgen Borchers flew with the Staff of I./Jg3, and had five victories in Russia with this unit:-

29th June 1941 I-153 NW Krzemeinec 1220 hrs
29th June 1941 I-153 W Krzemeinec 1225 hrs
29th June 1941 Pe-2 25km SE Ostrov 1805 hrs
16th July 1941 SB-2 10km E Berdicev 1526 hrs
16th July 1941 SB-2 10km E Berdicev 1532 hrs

He crashed his Bf109 during take-off from Colembert on 2nd September 1940, but was unharmed. After his claims in mid 1941 I can find no further reference to him anywhere. I assume he took up some none combatant job. however I have now found a reference to an Oberleutnant Hans-Jürgen Borchers born on 24th January 1919 and killed on 10th August 1944, buried at Le Cambei, France, so almost certainly killed in France, I suspect this is probably a soldier with the same name, but could also be the pilot, possibly killed on the ground!

Can anybody please enlighten me as to which, if any is the truth.

Grateful for any assistance.

Regards

Johannes

Re: Hans-Jürgen Borchers fate

From of our officer career database, we have:

BORCHERS, Hans-Jürgen.
(DOB: 10.06.14).
10.11.39 Oblt., trf from I./JG 2 to LKS 4 Fürstenfeldbruck.
01.05.42 Hptm., appt Ia op 1/1. Nachtjagddivision.
01.10.42 appt Ia op 1/1. Jagddivision.
15.06.43 appt Ia op 2/1. Jagddivision.
01.07.43 in Führer-Reserve Ob.d.L. (K.L.F.), ordered to XII. Fliegerkorps for temporary duty.
15.10.43 appt Ia op 2/3. Jagddivision (to 18.07.44).

From the Kracker Archive comes:

Borchers, Hans Jürgen. - Oblt. - 5 victories - Stab I./JG-3 (Channel) Bf 109E-4 Werk # 1979 (30% dam 9/2/40) EK 1 & 2, Fighter Operational Clasp Crashed on takeoff from Colombert on 2 September, 1940, pilot OK.

As for the specifics of his aeril victories, the Tony Woods database probably has all these.

Does this help?
