Bf 109 Stab.I/JG 51

Hi
At eBay here there is a photo of a Bf109 having crash landed. The markings indicate stab.I/JG 51. The seller appears to suggest the location as Illmensee (nr Ravensburg?) or more probably Cholm (Belarus). Can anyone provide more details?

Ian,

That's not the first picture concerning that plane; each time a different one. I'm afraid there is no more detail available. BUT it does exist one picture where we can see the plane on its "feet" ... among others. Camouflage particularities match enough to say it's the same.

Happy New Year.
Franck.

Ian,

it's most probable as the seller claims

Roughly the same area.

Thanks for the geographical pointers. The photo must then relate to I./JG 51’s period in the region around Staraja Russa. However the environment of the photo does not look like the deep mid-winter conditions of early 1942 during the defence of Cholm and Demyansk. I have also found a pic of the stab.I/JG 51 TO Bf109 (probably the same a/c) from this period which appears to be in winter camouflage…which this picture does not.

Happy New Year
