6/KG 51 Claim 6 Jul 44
At 0238 hrs on the above date, an Uffz from 6/KG 51 claimed a twin-engined aircraft near Caen. Some records say the name was Illner, others Josef Ottrin. Can anyone confirm one way or another?

Thanks for this-Theo and myself have been in discussion on this and other II/KG 51 claims

Re: 6/KG 51 Claim 6 Jul 44
I wonder if the 264 Sqn Mosquito and the KG 51 Me 410 didn't both make erroneous claims for each other. RAF claim was same time, 02.35, same area, near Caen.
Makes more sense to me than an Oboe crew lost without trace. Haven't checked the relative times UK/Continent before posting this, however IIRC last time I looked at this incident the times were identical. |
Re: 6/KG 51 Claim 6 Jul 44
Interesting-there were 2 claims for 410s that night-Moore of 604 & Ramsey of 264 Sqn...and there were 2 losses one each from 5 & 6 Staffel/KG 51
