Beaufighter fired RPs at Ju52
 

Hi guys

Just reading an official document in which a Beaufighter pilot fired his two 60lb air-to-ground rocket projectiles at a Ju52 he was pursuing. They missed and he shot down the aircraft with cannonfire.

Are there any known incidents where such an action was successful?

I know of an incident that was NOT sucessfull but worth mentioning.

I cannot remember if I read it or saw it on TV but the pilot of a rocket armed Swordfish was flying in cloud over the sea when he saw through a gap in the clouds a tight formation of circa nine Ju 88s heading his way at a slightly lower height, and he said he was tempted to let them have the full load of RPs but didn't - I think from fear that the ones he did not destroy would have certainly attacked him.

Still he could have been the one and only Swordfish ace!
