I have two newspaper articles from 1993, reporting on the concerns of a man named Leo Sheridan who it was said was involved with a consortium who planned to run trips into Galway bay in a former Russian diesel submarine, renamed the Cailleach.
The problem seemed to be the insurance for the operation of the submarine when there was this report of UX bombs in the harbour. He was campaigning for the wreackage to be cleared and the bombs found and destroyed. A local diver named Higgins said he had found parts of the aircraft. I don't know of any submarines operating as tourist attractions in Galway so I take it it never happened. The Connaught Sentinal carried the stories in June 1993. |
