#3, 4 & 5
This plane, 8./JG 27 is pictured in JFV Teil 4.1 page 425. Mr. Prien is saying that "perhaps" it could be WNr.2794, an E-4, which suffered an engine trouble near Cap Gris Nez; damage 20%. Doesn't seem an E-4, but better an E-1(/B) or E-8. It appears that there is another recorded loss for III./JG 27 on 30/8/1940 involving an E-1 WNr.6330, damage 30% at Dieppe. Since 6330 is inside the 6319/6401 range for E-1/B E-8 and since the damage is quite the same... ... Why not Dieppe dyke? Regards, Franck. |
Re: Some Bf 109s on eBay - 22/01/12.
Hi Gents,
It appears that most probably the picture has been taken at Querqueville. Forget Dieppe and Cap Gris-Nez. Note that III./JG 27 was based at Cherbourg and Théville from 7/40 to 28/8/40 Humm ... doesn't mean the picture was made during that period. Left, in Prien list, the one occured on 6/9/40 described as "Bauchlandung. 2 km westlich Cherbourg. 30%." But an E-3 ??? (on the picture, not in this loss) Cheers, Franck. |
