Gents,

The C/O of No.218 Squadron was shot down on July 24th while attacking Hamburg. Two of the crew F/Lt John Birbeck DFC ( 218 Gunnery leader) and the rear gunner F/Sgt Adam Howat rear gunner are reported to have parachuted from the stricken Stirling. An unconfirmed reported recently received suggests that both were murdered by hostile civilians on landing.

I would welcome ANY details on this loss.
