RAF claims 11 August 1940
Hi all
I'm looking for claims of Hurricane pilots : 11 August 1940, a.m., Bf 109 (damaged ?), southern coast of Kent, matching with a Bf 109 several times hit by three Hurricanes ( 25+, fuselage, canopy, engine). It succeeded to return to France by gliding from 3000 m over the Channel and belly landed on a beach near Calais. Regards Thierry |
Re: RAF claims 11 August 1940
There are about 19 claims in between 0800 hrs & 1215 hrs for both Spitfires and Hurricanes for damaged or unconfirmed Bf 109s in the Kent region. If you could be more precise with the time, that might help

Re: RAF claims 11 August 1940
Hi Chris
Thank you very much for reply. I couldn't unfortunately be more precise about time but it would have been damaged or claimed as destroyed probably during the first diversion mission on Dover preceding the main raid on Portland. Sorry for so "light" information. Regards Thierry |
Re: RAF claims 11 August 1940
Portland claims start around 1030 hrs so 32 Sqn 1050 hrs Dungesness, 64 Sqn 1000 hrs SW Gris Nez, 74 Sqn 2 unconfirmed and two damaged at 1015 hrs. Only Hurricane unit was 32 Sqn but mindful there is no apparent I/JG 51 loss (linking to your other post)................
