Ju 88 C-6 loss on 19-20 February 1944

According to the following website http://ag-luftkriegsgeschichte-kreis...ellenthal1.htm, a Ju 88 C-6 of LBS 3 (Luftbeobachtungsstaffel 3) was lost during the night of 19-20 Feb 1944 at Kradenhövel, with the three crew being unhurt.

With no casualty as this date, there is little chance there will be a loss report but I will be interested to know more about this loss if someone has more details.

From what I have read Luftbeobachtungsstaffel were more used against USAAF daylight raids than against RAF night raids, so maybe this website is wrong by giving it as a night loss.

Thanks in advance

PS: both Balss books have nothing about this loss.

Thanks Michael,

No idea of the hour of loss in the NVM ? I noticed that all of the losses of the night that have a loss hour in your book occured in the early hours of the 20th, as did all the claims of the NJG units.

Especially as the reason of loss was lack of fuel, if this Ju 88 was engaged against the RAF raid on Leipzig, it seems logical that if was lost rather at the end of the action.

Best regards

Laurent

Thanks again

A last question (really the last :) ): does the NVM indicate if this is a Heimat or a Feindflug loss ?

Best regards

Hello Michael,

What a coincidence to find this thread, whereas some minutes ago I posted a question about the same Ju88 on www.luftarchiv.de !

You don't have to answer there too of course :D

Thanks for this interesting info, do you perhaps have the same sort of info about another Luft Beob.St. 3 Ju88 which crashed near Nederweert/NL on 22 February 1944. The pilot was a Ofw. Niermann.

All the best, Marcel / Venlo

The registry of WWII air losses by the Dutch has this loss on 22 February at Nederwert, with same pilot but no Ju88 subtype or WNr.

Dates and location are different in the NVM. For the location a Niederwerth exists in Germany, while a Nederwert exists in Netherlands.
