This, his 110th, a Lancaster on 22 April, 1945. Thought to have also served in I/JG-53 under Erich Hartmann. Deceased 5 July, 2004. and 110 victories! Something about the planes he used (Bf 109F and G) in different units? Thanks. Franck. |
Re: Woidich, Franz Walter
Erich Hartmann was in JG53 only for a very brief time.
Woidich's last claim in 3./JG52 was on 16.07.1944 afaik. He must have been a rather realistic claimer, if one compares his "only" one claim during the Iasi battles to the extremely high numbers which were claimed by other pilots. In JG52 for sure he only used 109G and maybe 109Fs, if before June 1942. |
Re: Woidich, Franz Walter
Thanks Yogy
In fact my question is: do we know Code numbers, WNr./Stkz, losses concerning the Bf109Fs and Bf109Gs he flew? And pictures of course! In fact there is one available in Falcon site (F-4/Z/Trop WNr.8427) but it's attributed to 4./JG 27 not 5 Staffel as indicated in Kracker list. Only one picture for a pilot who got 110 kills? |
Re: Woidich, Franz Walter
His first victory in Russia was his 3rd on 10Jul42 10:12 a MiG-1 1km SE of Putilin. I didn't see any Bf 109's that were lost with him as a pilot in I/JG52 for 1942.

Oberleutnant Franz Woidich
Hello Franck
The only loss list entry that I have seen for him currently is the following: 12 December 1941: Bf 109 F-4/Trop (W.Nr. 8427) of Oberfähnrich Franz Woidich of 5./JG 27, engine fire on take-off, later exploded, Derna, 100% There is no loss list entry included by Fast nor in what goes of the relevant lists included in Die Jagdfliegerverbände der Deutschen Luftwaffe 1934 bis 1945 that I am aware of for his time in JG 52. Any comments or corrections will be appreciated and I hope this helps. Horrido! Leo |
Re: Woidich, Franz Walter
Thanks Leo, much appreciated.
Here is the said picture: http://www.me109.info/display.php?a=e&fid=2018 Obviously the engine took fire and exploded; but 100%? And obviously, too, the number is black and most probably - for what we can see - it's a Black 4. Any idea about what he did after the war? ... Cheers, Franck. |
