British grid system - Balkan

Hi All,

I am looking for a scan of a map or source, where to find how to calculate geographical position based on British grid coordinates (used by RAF) in 1944.
Any advice would be useful. Thanks

I know the site, but never realized how or where there get to the translation of coordinates given in such a form:
E 777880
S 140399
should be somewhere on Danube at Balkan...
Any help?

Re: British grid system - Balkan

If you look at the small grid presentation of "North Italy Grid" it seems that to use the "Co-ordinate translator" you have to put a lower case 'r' in front of the upper case 'E' so rE777880 comes up with Strehovci near Dobrovnik? Is that in the right kind of neighbourhood?

I'll get back to you on the other reference you have

Steve,
That is a problem..No it is not that location. All these (both I listed) have to be Danube river beds fro mine laying...And this is way too far from danube river. :(
I tried this trick with letter addings..but di not work :(
Any idea?

Maybe use the distance calculations described here

http://www.echodelta.net/mbs/eng-overview.php

with the Danube Zone map here?

xE777880 might get you somewhere, not sure about S140399

Sorry to hear that Peter. It has always worked for me before but I admit I have not been looking for localities in that part of the world. I have searched for grid refs in Yugolsavia and it has worked there.

Do you know how far to the East these localities are likely to be? Are they likely to be further East than the maps that are available on this website?

Thanks both. It is only on Danube, so the Danube Grid should work...Have to figure it out .
Anyone possibly have the Danube grid map in bigger ?
"xE777880 might get you somewhere, not sure about S140399"

Thanks...

I've just realised wE777880 would also work for the Danube.
