Bf 109G-10 or G-14/AS, Black 15, of the Hungarian Air Force
I am looking for photos of the Bf 109G-10 or G-14/AS, Black 15, of the Hungarian Air Force, photographed on Neubiberg airfield, in the Summer of 1945, I can publish in a forthcoming book. Needless to say, the photo's owner would have his name published as the source.
If someone has photo(s), which he does not want to get published, I would still appreciate a watermarked copy, so I can identify the camouflage and markings. The most interesting detail would be to positively identify the aircraft's Werknummer. http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/9...154cropped.jpg Thank you, in advance, |

If you have a better copy of the picture, then the c/n is visible on the tail.
It starts with 512, so it should be a G-14 made by WNF. Regards Dirk |

Unfortunately, I don't have a better copy.
I also read 512xxx, but printed sources list it as 612xxx. That's why the controversy... |

Hi Denes,
You might wish to contact Steve Sheflin via a PM on this DG. Steve has been sorting out all the Bf 109s that landed / surrendered at Neubiberg so should have the information you seek. Much of his information is sourced from photos in Jim Crow's collection. I have a Crow image that shows the port rear of sw.15 though it is not crisp enough to uneqivocally confirm its werknummer. Best of luck, David |

IMHO the W.Nr. apparently looks as 51278x... with the last digit probably being a "0" or a "6" (FWIW my guesswork, of course)
It is also fair to say that the exceptional study by JaPo (Janda -Poruba) on the Bf 109G-10/U4 has several pages of listings of the G-10/U4s found and there the "black 15" is reported as W.Nr. 612780... It would not be the first issue of serials incorrectly painted on Bf 109s, though... P.S. It seems to me also that the 512 xxx block was instead belonging to Bf 109G-14 production. |

I have the JaPo book. I looked at it many times, even with magnifying glass.
What I don't know if how much is actual quote from wartime documents and how much is guesswork. I have the feeling that although the W.Nr. on the fin apparently starts with 5, they must have said, no this should start with a 6, so they simply included in their list accordingly. That's why I am looking for better quality photos, in an effort to get as close to the truth as possible. |

Thanks for explaining your position.
The simplest - and more direct - route would be to get in touch with Tomáš at JaPo or privately... |
