Can anyone ID the location for this Color photo of Bf110D-0 A2+AL of 6./ZG2 over the Channel Coast

Hello,

This color photo was printed in the wartime German book "Fliegende Front" and shows the Bf110D-0 of probably StaKap of 6./ZG2 in flight over high chalk cliffs on the Channel Coast, probably during about August, 1940. I know that there are high chalk cliffs like this on both sides of the channel in the area around Calais-Dover. Does anyone know the area well enough to be able to ID the side of Channel this a/c is flying over, and perhaps even the fairly precise spot where this photo was taken? The pattern of the farm fields in the background may be distinctive of either France or Britain.

Thanx for any help.

Regards,

This is the Bf 110 of Hptm. Heinlein.

Coastal erosion permitting, that small bay might be an identifying feature if you spend enough time exploring the two coastlines on Google Earth.

Had a look at Google Earth, but probably too much modern development on the English side and too much cloud!!!! on the French side

Hello everyone ,

I can confirm 100% it is taken above the lighthouse at Cap d'Antifer near Etretat ( between Fecamp and Le Havre ) , Normandy . The Me110 is seen flying in SW direction. Try Google Earth and see .

Just to add that the white lighthouse can be seen emerging from the port wing's leading edge . In this very area took place operation Biting ( 27/28 Feb. 42 ) against the Würzburg radar .

Hello Larry ,

Glad to help . Just hidden by the Me110 rear fuselage is the place where crashed a Typhoon in May 1944 , with its pilot still missing . This occured during a rocket attack against the Wassermann radar . But this is another story...
