1,000th mission - identity of a/c and Squadron (Ebay photo)
Good morning to all!
I've watched this item on Ebay (unfortunately already sold). May I do ask some Experts, the type of aircraft and the Squadron. Another questions is: Was it common to paint the number of missions on the rudder of aircraft, like the picture clearly show us? I've seen several (Bundesarchiv) photographs showing special commemorative gadgets, when a Squadron reached 2,000 or 1,500 and even 1,000 missions (or victories) > Ex: There are pictures of a Me 210 from 1.(F)/120 on Me 210 In Action; or pictures of the 1,000 victory and 5,000 victory from JG 54 members on the Grunherz' well written book (by Schiffer). On the other hand, I never saw pictures showing the number of missions on the rudder, like that one. I do congratulate the new owner of this photograph and do hope he will be able to help us identifying the type of a/c and Squadron (personel as well, maybe?). All the best for all. Adriano S. Adriano,
the picture shows a Henschel Hs 126. About the unit it served with i've no idea because the first two stencils left of the Balkenkreuz are cropped. Best Regards Norbert |
