Crashed He 111, A1+DR? KG 53
On eBay here is a photo of a KG 53 He 111 which the seller claims to be coded A1+DR. Visually the belly-landed He 111 does not appear to be too badly damaged. However a following photo shows the graves of a number of Luftwaffe personnel which would appear to be related to the aircraft? A number of names are clearly visible, but a search of those in the foreground has not offered any answers. There is a third photo taken in the snow which has no obvious relationship to the first or second photo.
The rear of the first photo indicates that the crash was in August 1942 and located near Orel (Oryol). Can anyone provide further info? Cheers Ian |
Re: Crashed He 111, A1+DR? KG 53
Hi Ian,
If the code is indeed A1+DR it would be a He111 of the III/Gruppe, 7th Staffel. This would not correspond with the Staffelabzeichen, which is of the II/Gruppe. So my guess is that the "R" is a "P" (6th Staffel). Don't think the other pics have anything to do with the crash. Regards, Thomas |
