Ogefr. Hans Mäckle

During the night of 12/13th July 1944 Ogefr. Hans Mäckle lost bearings and he landed his Ju88 4R+UR at Woodbridge Suffolk.
Does anybody knows if there are photographs of this crew and/or the aircraft.
Most anxious to hear from you,
paul

Paul,

A technical description of this aircraft including 6 photos can be found in Crashed Enemy Aircraft Report Serial No. 242, dated 16 July 1944. Maybe you can order this report from the National Archives in Kew (UK). It can be found in file AIR40/2858.

Hope this helps,

Marcel

Re: Ogefr. Hans Mäckle

Paul there is a letter from John Maeckle ( pilot of the Ju88 from Richardson,Texas) which was publised in a 1978 Air Classics magazine. Basically he refutes an article on his capture in Air classics Vol.14 no1 implying that German NFs were ''inexperienced fools that could be talked into landing on an enemy airfield in broad daylight''. He says he was on patrol over the N.Sea and could not establish radio contact to get home and was running low on fuel. He broke cloud cover and told his crew to be ready to bale out, but the Bm told him he had not bought his chute. as a result he saw an airfield flashing a big white light and decided to land with 'no doubt where we were'. Slightly different to what is in the AD(I)K report although this does state only two of the crew had chutes and a single-seater dinghy,

Hi Paul. A little late I know, but have just seen your post regarding Ogefr. Hans Mäckle and can say that I have some images of the aircraft pictured at Woodbridge but do not think the quality is the best in the world. I will check out my folder later and get back to you if still interested?

Kind regards,

Melvin
