460thBG B-25G shot down 22 Feb 1944?
Hi guys
Reading Roy Nesbit's ARMED ROVERS, he mentions on page 196 that four B-25Gs of 460thBG co-operated with RAF Beaufighters in an attack on the M/V Lisa off the north coast of Crete. He also states that one B-25G was shot down. 1) was the 340thBG involved or is this a typo for 310thBG? 2) what was the identity of the B-25G lost, and its crew? 3) he also mentions that the B-25Gs shot down two attacking Bf109s/Ju88s? I can't seem to find anyhting on the net. Cheers Brian |

Try again, Brian. The 460th BG is a B-24 unit, and wouldn't have been cooperating with Beaufighters to attack an MV. Neither the 310th nor the 340th BG filed MACRs for this date. In the context of such an attack at sea, one would have to expect a MACR.
Enjoy! Frank. |

Same source as for McCall: the B-25s were four ships of 379th BS, 310th BG flying their last mission over the Aegean. They engaged 6 Bf 109s and 4 Ju 88s and claimed a Bf 109 and a Ju 88 shot down and a Bf 109 damaged, but suffered no loss.

Hi Frank and Laurent
Yes, both Roy Nesbit and I are responsible for typos!! Not sure where 460thBG came from (apart from me!) but Roy stated 340thBG in his book. And he also wrote that one B-25G was shot down. Thanks again. Brian |
