Lt. Wreschnick + 04.05.1941?
 

Hi All,

Can anyone please provide us with further information regarding the loss of Lt. Wreschnick of KG77 who was killed on the 4th May 1941. Does anyone know the location of his loss? Any further information regarding aircraft/crew etc would be greatly appreciated.

I have a little different info:
1941-05-03, 3./KG 77, Ju 88A-5, (88)4269, 3Z+CL, Downham Market, Norfolk, Notlandung infolge Motorstörung. Bruch 100 %.
Flugzeugführer Lt Wreschnick, Joachim, gefangen
Bombenschütze Uffz Siegmann, Rudolf, gefangen
Bordfunker Uffz Podlesch, Friedrich, gefangen
Bordschütze Gefr Pix, Hellmut, gefangen

Hi Melvin,

Like Matti I have the crew as POWs. A small note from Flypast of May 1987 said the 88 is believed to have beeen attacked by Sgt. Hollowell while on a mission to Liverpool . the port engine was knocked out and the starboard damaged. Crew ordered to bail out, while the pilot made a forced landing and tried without success to set fire to the aircraft by firing into the fuel tanks.
Location I have is Welney Wash near Downham market ( MR F 9912) at O400 hrs,

Thanks Matti & Brian, Seem to be having too many senior moments lately! I checked Blitz 2 for the 4th May and found nothing! Your help is much appreciated guys.

According to intelligence reports from AI2(g) the cause of the crash was apparently engine failure; the port engine seized and caught fire, and the starboard engine also failed. There is no evidence that RAF night-fighter action had any bearing on this loss. Three crew baled out over March (Cambs) and were captured there. Wreschnick, who was cut about the face/head made a 'fair' belly-landing after skimming over the top of a wood at Welney Wash. He emptied his pistol into the burning port engine nacelle in an attempt to stoke up the fire and destroy the a/c. In this he was unsuccessful as he was disarmed and the fire extinguished by a L/Cpl Keeley and three other ranks of the 2nd Btn., W Norfolk Zone Home Guard.
Joachim Wreschnick revisited the area in the 80s together with Alfred Plank Von Bachselten, pilot of the 3/KG.53 He 111 brought down in Norfolk the same night.

Hello Just to say I have Lt Wreschnick's Soldbuch in my collection,

I have seen an old thread which a member had his flugbuch.I think the mebers name was derek Hicks??

Also I just read that the pilot visited the crash site in the 80's does anyone know if he is still alive?
