Help needed:Arado AR 196 loss Jonsvatnet/Trondheim Norway
Hi!
There is a rumour regarding one Arado went down in Jonsvatnet sometime under the war 1940-1945, the exact year is still unknown, but rumours I have heard is that the plane went straight to the ice with the crew onboard. The plane was under the search before salvaging the more known Ju88(U4+TK) and Casimirs Heinkel H-111(6N+NH), found on the bottom of the lake. I have confirmation about the find but no more information is given because it is told to be a wargrave. Is there any way to search or confirm that this is legit or just a rumour? Think this is a tuff on because of lack of information... Any help is much appreciated . Thanks! John Fredrik |

John
I remember being advised (can't recall by who!) at the time of the Ju88/He111 recoveries that the wreckage of the Arado was found, but not disturbed due to the war grave status. Dave |

This is correct. It was the salvaging team from the Norwegian Armed Forces Museum that told us that at the time . It has been mentioned in many magazines after the salvage.. They are short on information about what they have found in Jonsvatnet and I am a bit curious about where they have their information from and why it is soo closed for public? I guess they are afraid of people diving and disturbing the grave, I can relate to that. Jonsvatnet is also the drinking water for Trondheim area and diving/swimming is forbidden.. I guess this is a hard one to confirm... There are many rumours I am trying to confirm, this is one of them. A other one is about a BF109 who landed on Jonsvatnet and winged over still not to have been confirmed. Thanks! John Fredrik |
