Stab III./K.G. 76 pilot, Ofw. Riebl

Ofw. Riebl was FF with Stab III./K.G. 76 in July 1940, reportedly he was killed in action over England few weeks after. Any details on him and/or the crew he flew with?

Kind regards,
Pawel

Ofw Edmund Riebl was the pilot when the Gr Kdr, Obstlt Adolf Genth was killed on 29 Jul 40; his Do 17 was rammed by a Spitfire, according to German records (Ferriss of 111 Sqn?) on 16 Aug 40; Ofw Anton Waechter (7/KG 76), Fw Edmund Klumb (8) and Ofw Ernst Brauer (7) were also killed when the Do 17 crashed at Paddock Wood

As a matter of interest, Genth was a veteran of WWI raids against England, his son was a fighter pilot in III/JG26 and his grandson is a pilot as well.

Thank you both. Chris, do you have any details for crew functions (who was BO, BF, BS etc.) and a/c details for both incidents? I am not certain in the matter of Oberstlt. Adolf Genth being Gruppenkommandeur at the time of his death on 29-Jul-40. He is mentioned as Kommandeur in Fragebogen that I saw but this could mean he being a/c commander e.g. observer in case of Do 17.

Kind regards,
Pawel

Without rechecking I guess they are BO, BF, BS/BM in that order. Genth was Gr Kdr according to a book written by his son. Genth was not a pilot but by dint of his rank, would have been aircraft commander when he was killed

Dear Chris, would you recheck your sources when you find time? Are there any aircraft details?

I am not entirely in clear who actually was Gruppenkommandeur of III./76 then. Could be Major Franz Reuss (according to www.ww2.dk).

Pawel

Pawel: F, B, BF, BM. Genth is recorded in the KG 76 records as Kdr and the book written by his Grandson. NO further details on the 16 Aug 40 ac apart from it was a Z-2 (but could be Z-1 or Z-3)!

Thanks Chris.

Yes, it would be tricky to try to identify a subtype, as older Do 17Z airframes were subject of several 'official' modifications, and factory fresh Do 17Z-1 and Z-2 were 100% identical externally.

Kind regards,
Pawel
