Hi,

Can anyone provide details on the loss of Gefreiten Ernst Kernbichler who died in a flying death on the 27th July 1944?

Bordwart (groundcrew) Gefr. Ernst Kernbichler, killed in a crash (transfer flight) July 27th 1944 near airfield München-Riem.

4./NJG4 Ju 88 G-1 712311
Pilot Uffz. Rolf Künzel and WOp Gefr. Karl Kleissl also killed.
takeoff was airfield Coulommiers/France

So not part of crew despite sterbebild naming him as bordschutz

that can be - most of the "Bordwarte" also had a training as airgunner (bomber, etc.),
and during a transfer flight, he was also the airgunner.

I am quite surprised , Mikka, that you named ground personal , the Bordwart, of the type hundreds were lost in action, Bw seems more to be the new name of the Bm, Bordmechaniker
