Blenheim 1 PRU photographs sold Ebay recently - identity
Again, good night to all members!
This is another photograph I was wishing to add to my very small collection...Again: congratulations for the winner...a nice set indeed. Are those pictures of the Blenheim I, serial number V5376, flown by F/O Flynn and crew, which was shot down on the Netherlands, on 14th April 1941? IF the winner of this set is reading, could you contact me off board, please? Any help on the identity of this wreckage is welcomed. Yours Adriano Baumgartner |
Re: Blenheim 1 PRU photographs sold Ebay recently - identity
Hallo Adriano,
I saw these interesting photos a few days too and tried to identify it. I am convinced it was Blenheim IV, V5376 shot down over Holland on 14 April 1941. I believe it was the only Blenheim lost in action by 1 PRU during WW2. There is no other possible match in Graham Warner's 'THE BRISTOL BLENHEIM' (2nd edition) or Ross McNeill's 'RAF COASTAL COMMAND LOSSES, Vol. 1'. Therefore a unique aircraft. Regards, Martin. |

Hello,
An "Oldie", but a "Goodie" A three-quarter rear shot of this LY-coded Blenheim (the wreck was still burning!), appeared in: Squadron Codes 1937-56 Bowyer,Michael J F & John D R Rawlings. Cambridge:P.S.L.,1979 p.70 The photo was accompanied by the following caption: A few Blenheim IVs were used by 1 PRU, Benson. This machine came down near Breskens and was photographed there on April 14, 1941. (Source: G.J.Zwanenburg) I think the photo had appeared even earlier than 1979 in Airfix Magazine. No serial is visible in Zwanenburg's photograph. Col. |
