Re: KG 3 losses in Russia

Chris here is what Vitaliy Gorbach had to say on this incident from his book.
"Nevertheless one battle, carried out on 9 August by the pilots of the 41 GIAP, not only has once again confirmed their high performance, but also deserved the appreciation of the 2 VA command. Led by the tested ace Kapitan Aleksandr Georgievich Pavlov, six La-5 in the Bogodukhov region attacked 4 He 111, which went under escort of 4 "Messerschmitts". Attacking the bombers, Kapitan A.G. Pavlov right away, as stated in the division documents, brough down one "Heinkel" that was at the lead point. The German aircraft caught fire, and from it one after the other parachuted four crew members, that landed in the Malaya Sinyavka region. One additional He 111 was confirmed shot down by Mladshiy Leytenant Vladimir Yakovlevich Galitskiy."

"Only with the assumption that in the heat of battle the Soviet pilots erroneously determined the type of enemy machines, places everthing in its place. German sources note the loss in air battle practically in one place of two Ju 88A-4 of the composition of 5./KG3"
