Black Sea aerial torpedo successes
 

In looking through the book "Luftwaffe Aerial torpedo aircraft and operations in World war two" it lists the following ships sunk by luftwaffe torpedo bombers during WW II:
3.1041 transport Dnjepr
?.5.42 tanker Valerian Kuybushev
16.10 41 steamer Bolshvik
2.3.42 unk transport claimed
18.3.42 unk tanker claimed hit
are there any others?
units involved 1/KG 28 and 6/KG 26

As i should have said does anyone have any more information on other Soviet ships sunk or damaged in the Black Sea by Luftwaffe torpedo bombers during the 1941-42 period? Sorry for being so garbeled.

A little more infromationin Black Cross/red Star Volume II pg 129
"The first victory was achieved on the night of March 1/2,1942when a II/KG-26 crew hit and severely damaged the 2,434 ton steamer Fabritsius. The ship was grounded at Cape Tuela where it was destroyed in storm"

Also mentioned is the torpedoing of the freighter V. Chapayev on March 23
and the torpedoing of the tanker Kuybyshev on April 2.Also the torpedoing of the Svanetiya on April 17th.

The Axis forum thread to which Kaki gave a link is very long, but here is info on Vasilii Chapaev fromBIGpanzer's message on 07 Oct 2005, 17:58 :


About the third "Chapaev" (correct name "Vasilii Chapaev", ChGMP, 2690 brt - cargo capacity in metric tonns!): the ship was torpedoed by German torpedo-bomber on 23.03.1942 (43°45' 33°25', 40 miles from Kherson lighthouse) during the transportation of cargos and soldiers. The torpedo destroyed the rear of the ship, 102 men were lost (the rest were saved by destroyer "Shaumyan", which escorted the ship). The ship`s commissar I. Sokalsky organized the rescue operation from the settled down "Vasilii Chapaev", saved many people and stayed on ship.

A couple more torpedo successes from the Axis forum thread from BIGpanzer's messages:
"Tanker “Sovietskaya neft” Germans torpedoed and bombed the ship in October 1941, but the crew of "Sovietskaya neft" could defend the ship with the help of several AA guns and repair the damages during two days in the open sea. Specifications: 17500 t; 143 x 17,3 x 8,9 m; 2 diesels (2060 kWt); 11 knots"

(The message doesn't explicitly say, that it was hit by (an) aerial torpedo(s) and not by (a) naval torpedo(s), but IMHO probably by an aerial.)

"“Dnepr” (12589 t) was sunk by one of six air torpedoes on 3 October 1941. "

(On Dnepr/Dnjepr. Was it working as a hospital ship or as a transport ship at the time of the attack is unclear, the hospital ships of the Black Sea Fleet operated in both roles in 41-42)
