P-47 Thuderbolt Crash, St Blimont, France

Can anyone supply the date and details of a P-47 which crashed at St Blimont after its pilot baled out and was taken POW at Bourseville, France?

I would be glad to try and help, but can you supply any other details? My data base isn't broken down into areas of crashes, so if you could give an idea of a month or year, it would help.

I regret that I have nothing else!

Whilst in the area recently I was shown the crash site and asked by the landowner if I could find him any details.

My personal curiosity was stirred, too, in case we might find a living veteran in the US who was the pilot - or maybe his family. I have something from the crash site they may like as a keepsake.

Thank you, FrankieS.

None of those locations seem to fit, though. We have the pilot baling out near Bourseville and POW with the P47 going on to crash near St Blimont.

If the identification of P-47 is only by witnesses, it might be any US fighter...

You can try the list of crashes at http://francecrashes39-45.net/ (select Somme departement) to see if your crashsite is close to one of these. The list is not complete.

Laurent

No, I was shown pieces at the crash site. 100% P-47.

Local information was consistent from several sources about the bale out of the pilot and where he descended.
