USAAF display Eiffel Tower 1945

Would anybody have any information about the display that took place between August and September 1945. I am particularly interested in finding out the serial number of the Curtiss C46 Commando that was on display underneath the Eiffel Tower.
All the pictures I have found of this C46 I have been unable to read the serial number or it might be that the serial number was painted out. I seem to remember that somebody published something about this display in one of the British avaition magazines, but at the time I didn't take any notice of the article as I was loking the C46's serial number at the time.

Richard,

No doubt you've (also) found this link http://www.skylighters.org/history/exhibit/index.html

The C-46 only shows a "C" on the tail but behind the cockpit there seems to be some squadron or group sign.
Perhaps a forum member knowledgeable about these can point to what unit the C-46 came from?

Leendert

That's the Air Transport Command insignia behind the cockpit but it doesn't help to narrow it down very much!

Here is a picture I have taken when the display was being dismantled. You can see on the other side of the C46 they have painted out the squadron code and replaced it with the insignia of Troop Carrier Command
