Information on 253 Squadron over France May 1940 required

Regular visitors to this site will be aware of my passion with 238 Squadron during the Battle of Britain and in particular Sgt Eric Bann, KIA 28/09/40.

His letters and his brother who i am friends with, state he served in France and saw action over Dunkirk. I have until now always failed to prove he did.....However......

He was posted only for three days too 253 Squadron between May 17th --21st May. During this time the Squadron served over France covering the withdraw flying from England every morning into Vitry in France, before returning to England at night ( those who survived the day )

Can someone please confirm his service with 253 during these three days and that he was in action during these dates. Or give any details on 253's actions during these dates.

PLEASE HELP TO CONFIRM THIS.

Hi Jon

Info on 253 Sq in France in May 1940 is covered in "Twelve Days In May" by Brian Cull & myself , also "Home Run" by R.T.Bickers has a good chapter on F/Lt Guy Harris a 253 Sq flight commander in may 1940. Further information can be gleaned from John Greenwoods website and a chapter he provided for Norman Franks' book "Hurricane at War 2
I doubt that Bann saw any action with 253 before being posted on to 238 Sq
Hope this helps
