Ju 52/3m code query
 

At eBay here is a Ju52 in flight with a code which appears to be N3+LZ. The seller claims M3+L2, but I am sure that this is not correct. N3+ would be appropriate, since this is KGzbV 172. However the staffel letter Z is confusing since this unit did not have a 15 staffel. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Not an answer to your conundrum as such, but in Rosch's Luftwaffe Codes, Markings & Units 1939-45 (Schiffer), p43, there is a listing for N3+IX, although sadly it does not elaborate further. At the foot of p.42, however, there is a reference to the code 'N3' also being used by Stab/KG3, although the identifying last letter is marked as '?'. I don't know if that unit ever had occasion to employ a few Ju52s.
