John A. Sullivan 27FS/1FG and 350FS/353FG?

Hi All,

Was 1/Lt John A. Sullivan who flew with 27FS/1FG during early 1943 and claimed 3-1-1 the same individual who as a Capt flew with 350FS/353FG in the UK from 07Jun43?

If so when did he leave 27FS and join 350FS.

Regards

Andy,
1stLt John A Sullivan, service number O423966, claimed 3/1/1 with the 27th FS 1st FG, flying P-38s. His last claim with them was on Feb 28, 1943. As a Capt. he served with the 435th FS, 479th FG (8th AF), and is credited with a single damaged Me-109 on July 24, 1944, also flying the P-38. He undoubtedly completed his tour with the 27th FS and returned to the US, later joining the 435th FS for a second tour.

There is a 1stLt John B Sullivan, service number O689911, serving with the 405th FS, 371st FG (9th AF), who is credited with a single victory on June 20, 1944. If John A Sullivan served with the 353rd FG in 1943 he made no claims. I would be a little surprised at someone serving a tour in the Med and within months flying another tour in the ETO. The 353rd FG history, Jonah's Feet Are Dry, would be the place to check for further details.

Frank.

Hi Frank,

Many thanks for your reply.

There is a Capt John A. Sullivan listed in Fighter Units & Pilots of the 8th Air Force by Kent D. Miller as serving with 350FS/353FG from States-May44, flew 71 missions but as you say doubtful this is the same individual as 353FG opereted P-47s. It makes no mention of his previous or later service.

P.S.

How is are the RAF claims lists coming along.

What’s going on here?

First Ruy brings up Marion Dufilho, classmate of my father at USNA and at Pensacola and, now, here’s a mention of a Lt John B Sullivan, O689911, serving in the 405 FS which my uncle was commanding when he was killed in action in January 1945.

Must be small world week.

Happy Holidays to all!

Rich Leonard
