26th October 1944 P51D lost over California
 

Hello,
Has any one heard of any update on the search for the missing P51D 44-15669 lost over California on the 26th October 1944 ?
Its pilot WASP Gertrude V. Tompkins.
Both aircraft and pilot have as yet never been found.
Gertrude is the last WASP pilot still missing.

Alex - was this the aircraft that ditched in shallow water shortly after take-off with the end of the runway near the beach ? If so - the latest update was that a group were researching a project to survey the area with a view to recovery of the lady pilot. I've been looking for but cannot find the link I saw a while ago, if I find it again I'll pm you.
