Group Captain Roger Cave Porteous, DSO + KIFA 9th July 1953
Good morning for all!
I am seeking details of the flying accident ( aircraft type, serial number, etc...causes of accident) that took the life of Group Captain Roger Cave Porteous, DSO (RAFO 37867 ), Commanding Officer of RAF Wahn, in Germany, on the 09th July 1953. Any background of this fellow officer who is born at Ootacamund, Nigiri Hills, in India and joined the RAF in 1936 is welcomed too. I do know that he commanded Nș 6 Squadron in Egypt, where he was awarded his DSO. Does anyone do have a picture of this former Officer to share? Thanks Adriano S. Baumgartner |

Adriano,
So far only could find that he crashed near Wahn airfield after a training flight from Celle. Will try to find more. Regards, Leendert |

Adriano,
It was in a Vampire jet fighter and the crash was witnessed by British school children visiting the base... This from the European Stars and Stripes of July 10, 1953. Regards, Leendert |

And finally, from the Vampire production list: Vampire FB.5 VV665.
It says here: "stalled on approach and dived into ground Wahn 9.7.53" Regards, Leendert |

Dear LEENDERT,
Do have NO WORDS to express my gratitude. I was away a couple of days, this is the main reason for the delay in thanking you! Mervellous work of your part! Again thanks for your very kind help. Adriano |
