Help needed for StG 2 emblem
Could anybody supply me with a drawing or a picture of this StG 2 emblem (or at least a hint where I could find it) seen on unit's hack Do 17P in time of Balkan campaign in 1941.

Re: Help needed for StG 2 emblem
Calling that Do 17 a 'hack' aircarft I think is something of a misnomer - there were in fact several recorded losses of Do 17s and 110c while on recon sorties, presumably assessing targets or strike damage for their particular units.

Re: Help needed for StG 2 emblem
Boris,
This looks like the Stabskette/St.G.2 Emblem - any chance of a clearer image? Have a look at Ketley/Rolfe "Luftwaffe Emblem" item No 484 According to the notes that go with the image this is the arms of the town of Barleben near Magdeburg, and "This badge was carried by three Do 17Ps used by St.G.2 from about Apr 1940 to 6 June 1943". I seem to remember reading somewhere that the St.G. units had a few Dorniers for their own recce purposes. Hope that this helps. |

Well, I agree. Was it a Do 17P in which Lt Gotthard Kluger, Lt Schenkel and Fw Hans Rode were wounded by ground fire over Skoplje on 10 April 41? On 11 April 41 "T6+FA" W.Nr.4041 went missing at unknown location and under unknown circumstances; Oblt. Gerhard Krieger, Uffz Hans Leonhardt and Uffz Gerhard Kunert subsequently returned to their unit. Where did they go down? "This looks like the Stabskette/St.G.2 Emblem - any chance of a clearer image?" Unfortunately no, this is from a book "Luftkrieg über Afrika" Band I, p.146, aircraft has the code T6+HA and is from Stabskette/StG 2. Cheers, Boris |
