Information about specially engined Me 109 G AS models
 

Hi, does anyone some information about the speed and ceilling of the specially boosted Me 109 G5, G6, G10 and G14 AS variants (and the number of them build-rebuild in 1943-1944-1945 would be very interesting if provided)

:cool: I was just surfing this Web Site and came across your entry.
I have a huge book of "World Aircraft" by David Donald and this shows some details of the Messerschmitt Bf109G (0-16). This was a major version with provision for cockpit pressurisation but proved of no significant value, pressurisation being deleted from the Bf109G-6 onwards.
Bf109G-6 - engine DB 605AM inverted V-12 developing 1342 Kw (1800HP) with water/ methonal injection. Maximum speed 621 Kmh (386mph) @ 7000m (22965 ft) ceiling 11750m (38550 ft), range 720km (447 miles), armament 2 x 13mm (0.51 inch) (MG131), 3 x 20mm (MG151 cannons.

Sorry for sounding so slow witted, but when you say specially boosted G5, G6, etc. are you speaking only about the addition of the 603G supercharger to the basic engine, or are you talking about boosting beyond that? I ask because there was also GM-1 boost, though rare; and of course, MW boosting. In fact, in some of the later engines, both MW boost and the large supercharger were almost always included as part of the basic engine installation. This was not 100% as can be seen in some late 1944 G-14 production in which, for uncertain reasons, the MW unit was not incorporated.

Here are the performance statistics as taken from Monogram Close-Up 6 Gustav Messerschmitt 109G Parts 1 and 2 by Thomas H. Hitchcock. The figures are taken from the General Luftzeugmeisters/C-E2 13 August and 1 November 1944.

Bf 109G-6/AS:

Max combat speed at ground level: 310 mph
Max combat speed at max altitude: 402 mph @ 28,871 ft
Max emergency speed at ground level: 322 mph
Max emergency speed at max altitutde: 402 @ 29,528 ft

Bf 109G-14/AS:

Max combat speed at ground level: 294 mph
Max combat speed at max altitude: 387 mph
Max emergency speed at ground level: 336 mph
Max emergency speed at max altitude: 408 @ 24,606

Excuse me being picky, but should the reference "at max. altitude" in the last posting really refer to the full throttle height, rather than the aircraft ceiling? The less-technically aware reader may get confused by poor terminology (I certainly do!).

Good point, Graham. Although I think of it as the a/c critical altitude, because above this altitude, the a/c can still be at full throttle, but be moving more slowly.

...and no G-10/AS :)
This variant was to be powered with 605 D Motor and if there were any with AS Motor it is rather just a replacement, repair or something.
