B-17 Collission

Hello,
Famous story of the B-17, serial 41-24406 that was hit by a Luftwaffe aircraft but continued its flight and returned safe to base.
Date was IIRC February 1st 1943.
But what of the Luftwaffe aircraft and its pilot/crew what type of aircraft was it and what became of her pilot/crew and who was/were he/they ?

Thanks
Alex

Re: B-17 Collission

Hello,

Steve Birdsall and Roger Freeman (Claims to Fame:The B-17 Flying Fortress,Arms & Armour. [P/B], 1997. pp.52-60), suggest the pilot who attacked, and struck 41-24406, "All American" (414th BS/97th BG), was Fw Erich Paczia, of 6./JG 53 (KIA 1-2-1943).
