Unteroffizier Bernhard Meyer - JG 52

Hi Guys - I'm looking for additionall information regarding Unteroffizier Bernhard Meyer of JG 52. From the help of the following website, I've been able to learn that Meyer had at least three kills - one in February and two in March, 1944

http://www.cieldegloire.com/jg_052l.php

He was awarded the Iron Cross Second Class on April 25, 1944, probably as a result of these victories. Meyer went on to score at least two more kills - one on July 17 and one on July 23, 1944.

According to this thread (post 7)...
http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...bernhard+meyer

he was wounded during air combat on the same day of his last victory. Does anyone have anymore information on Meyer? I'm assuming the wound was significant enough to keep him from flying again, let alone score anymore victories. Also, its interesting that, accoding to the limited info available, that he didn't shoot down any planes between March and July. I wonder if he was wounded in Spring as well, well before his July injury.

Hi Brian

Meyer actually made six claims, all with 3./Jg52 as an unterofficier:-

9th November 1943 U-2 South of Gromowka 1115 hrs low altitude Nr.1
22nd February 1944 Il-2 25km E-N-E Nikopol 1130 hrs 200 metres Nr.2
10th March 1944 Il-2 25km South of Chersson 1452 hrs 800 metres Nr.3

23rd July 1944 Il-2 30km W-S-W Berezany 1036 hrs 400 metres Nr.6

On 23rd July 1944 he was shot down in combat with Russian aircraft, wounded he baled-out of his Bf109 5km East of Chodorow, Russia. On 26th December 1944 he was listed as missing, his Bf109 cominmg down in the region of Baranow, Poland. Sorry, but I have no date of Birth for him!

Kind Regards

Chodorow it's not in Russia but in Western Ukraine, Lwow region. It is probable that Meyer's Bf 109 was shot down by St Lt Leonid Kozyrev from 113 GIAP flying La-5.
