Who shot down PR Spitfire on 3 June 1940?

Hi guys

On 3 June 1940, during the German mass air raid on Paris, a PR Spitfire was shot down and crash-landed. I can find two claims for a Spitfire, both south to south-east of Paris, one by Molders and the other by Lippert. Do we know more details?

Cheers
Brian

Hi, Maybe this one??

***********************************
P9331 Spitfire PR. A (MerlinIII); Became Lw.No. 2+1. TOC/RAF 29.02.40; No.212 Sqn, glycol leak,force-landed near Reims 7.6.40; Repaired and to German Testcentre Rechlin ('2+1') --.06.40; Fate unknown Spitfire PR type B P9331 in hanger at Reims/Champagne aerodrome in early June 1940.On the afternoon of the 07.06.40 F/Lt.‘Tug’ Wilson was forced to land there during an abortive mission to photograph the railway line at Maastricht-Liege. This was the first PR Spitfire captured by the Germans.

Interesting.

What evidence is there that P9331 was the Spitfire flown at Rechlin as
"2-1"? The Spitfire "2-1" could also conceivably be P9317 of 222 Sq flown by P/O H. E.L. Falkhurst who landed wheels down on June 1,1940. The plane was in flyable shape from all the pictures I've seen. There are quite a few from E-bay sales

IN "Flugerprobungstellen bis 1945" there is a table of the captured A/C used by Rechlin. In this table, Spitfire "2-1" is listed as on strength at Rechlin from June 1940 through March 1941. Another Spitfire I was coded "4-5" and was on strength from October 1940.Finally, "5-2" was on strength from December 1941 through September 1942.

Hi,
Yes interesting - I will dig that info out for you - I came across it when Iwas looking into Sid cottons activities. It might have come from LEMB they have about 5/6 pages on Spitfire in use by Luftwaffe. any way I'll find it and get back.
