Bf 110 D serial 3713, S9+PH 1./ZG 1, missing in Plan Quadrat 39221 September 18th 1942, Uffz. Richard Söchtig and Uffz. Heinz Diemer both missing.
takeoff was from airfield Frolow.

As per John's book The Sting of the Luftwaffe, he states this took place on the 19th instead of the 18th. Which is correct?

Since there was also a second loss, most probably in the the same engagement by Russian fighters, I would be most interested if the correct date could be 100% determined.

Just see in the GQM file the loss date was corrected to 18th Sept,
(dated 18th Oct.1942)

Three sources consulted for the date of the loss:
GQM;
Namentliche Verlustmeldung;
1./ZG 1 KTB

The GQM is littered with mistakes throughout its length;
Namentliche Verlustmeldungen are far more accurate in terms of names, places, dates, as these were the reference point for HQ to notify next-of-kin;
1./ZG 1 KTB was the on-the-spot reference for the Staffel.

I went with the Nam Ver and the KTB.

It is more likely to be September 19, as corresponding Soviet claims were reported on that date.
