Identifying this symbol on Battle Dress - CGM winner
Good night to all!
May I ask if one of you could (or can) identify this symbol on the shirt of the Battle Dress of a CGM winner (463 Squadron) which is for selling at Ebay. I never saw this kind of emblem and would be very pleased to know more about it....(Warrant Officer rank for RAAF airmen?) Thank you Adriano Baumgartner |
Re: Identifying this symbol on Battle Dress - CGM winner
I believe this is the rank of "flight sergeant" when they were re-designated as Aircrew 1 and was used between July 1 1946 and 1950. Here is a description from wikipedia - the source of all true knowledge ;-)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_sergeant "On 1 July 1946, aircrew flight sergeants were redesignated Aircrew I and replaced their chevrons with three six-pointed stars within a wreath and surmounted by an eagle and a crown. This proved unpopular however, and in 1950 they reverted to their old rank and badge, although Flight Sergeants Aircrew wear an eagle between chevrons and crown. Flight Sergeants in ground trades wear only a crown above the three chevrons." |

RSwank,
Thank you very much for the kind attention and most welcomed information! I never imagined that this rank (Aircrew 1) existed only for a short period (4 years). Really a fascinating information. I do thank you again for the very interesting and detailed information. (I do passed that for several friends). Yours most sincerely, Adriano |
