Re: heinkel 219

Im sure the He219 experts can provide more help, but I am sure that there is a miss-reading of the codes here. 1R+5B is not a recognised code. Units carrying 1R+ and K7+ were largely recon units and not He219 nightfighter codes.

The name of the BF would help to provide the correct unit

hi steven,
did this guy fly with maritime planes before? i think i have seen his flugbuch! be aware! the first entries are ok but the last ones might be written into his logbook after the war to get better chances while joining the bundeswehr. the lasts flights are in austria after wars end, aren´t they? do you also have his leistungsbuch? be aware, too!
all the best
jim

Hello Steven,

I am quite confident that I may be able to help with my databases of known He219's, He219 operating crews and units etc.
What puzzles me however, is that your log book shows 2 (rare) Mosquito claims in one night in a time that the Mosquito's were almost only vulnerable to the two seats Me262 jet. Another puzzling fact is that the main He219 operating unit was moving north and hardly be able to send up He219's for combat.

If you could reveal the name of the Bordfunker, that would enable me to confirm if this man is genuine or not. If the awards are fake, I would not be surprised at all to discover that the log book has been fabricated too.

hi marcel,

the first part is correct, the second part is about flights with he 219 in austrai even at 9th may 1945. i was offered this flugbuch, but i didn´t bought it, because of these fake-entries.

all the best
jim

Re: heinkel 219

Hello Jim,

Well, many years ago the Oberbürgemeister of Vienna wrote to a Dutch airwar historian that it was impossible that an Austrian Luftwaffe pilot could have been missed over the Netherlands because 'Austria was never at war' (!).
The Dutch remember it a bit differently: the chief Nazi administrator of the Netherlands was Arthus Seyss-Inquart, leader of the Austrian Nazi's before the war and hanged after the Nuremberg trials for crimes against humanity.

It would not surprise me at all if someone flew a He219 in Austria after VE-Day until an American or Russian GI told the surprised pilot that the war really was over since a week or two... :D

I am still hoping to get a look at those logbook pages, all the best, Marcel

Hello Steven,

I hope we did not offend you in any way by doubting the Mosquito claims with a He219 in the last weeks of WW-2 ?

Would love to see that Flugbuch page(s) in order to see whether our doubts can be confirmed.

All the best, Marcel
