RAF Coastal Command

Hi All,
Is there out there a definitive publication concerning RAF Coastal Command. In particular relating toThe Battle of the Atlantic and the U-boat war?

Regards
Peter Clare.

When it comes to history you'll never find the definitive work, but regarding the Uboat battles there's one quite thorough book called "Search Find and Kill" by Norman L R Franks ISBN 0 946627 55 x. The book covers all uboats known to be damaged or sunk by Coastal Command in all Groups.
Although I'm sure more information has come up after the book was written I have found that when it comes to the stuff I know a little about it seems to be fairly accurate.

There's also a book about Liberators in the bay of Biscay but I can't seem to remember the name. It's a more recent issue.

atckyrre,

Are you thinking of "Endurance" published by Banner Books? It documents the RAAF usage/involvement with Liberator operations over the Atlantic with Coastal Command.

Other books of interest:
"Dark Sky, Deep Water" by Norman Franks (Grub Street)
- First hand reflections on the anti-U-boat war in WW2

"Bloody Biscay" by Chris Goss (Crecy), Chris is a regular on this forum
- history of V Gruppe/KG40 - Junkers 88 ops over the Bay of Biscay.

Hi Atckyrre and Geoff,
Many thanks for your replies. Search Find and Kill is a difficult book to get hold of these days but I do have Endurance by Alwyn Jay which covers quite a bit concerning No 120 Squadron RAF Coastal Command, the Squadron I research. By the way, if anyone has an interest in 120 Sqd (I have the complete ORB June 1941-May 1945) or the B-24 Liberator in 120 Sqd service I would be pleased to hear from you.
Geoff, I will be attempting to obtain the books you recommend by Chris Goss.

Regards
Pete

Thanks for the info on Search Find And Kill. In my experience most of the internet book shops indicate that they have a copy / copies of a hard to find publication, and then after a few weeks state that they can't get it.
But I will give it a go.
Regards
Peter.

Re: RAF Coastal Command

The dealers that advertise their books on abe, have the book in their shop
they tell you of the condition of the book etc.
It's mostly 2nd hand dealers that advertise here not internet shops.

I am very satisfied with abe - very proffesional I think
I have bought 2nd hand books from this site in the last 4 - 5 years

Sure there is. It was put out by the Royal Air Force Historical section many moons ago.
