RAF Combat Reports

Re: RAF Combat Reports
How do these items keep appearing for auction? Can one assume that they are stolen?

Re: RAF Combat Reports
Ed,
Many thanks for posting these links. Just a note: the latter pilot´s name was not Kauky, but Kaucký (interesting that it appeared mispelled in the original document, but perhaps it just proves the rush of those days...) Ota |
Re: RAF Combat Reports
Chalupa's is a fake.

Re: RAF Combat Reports
Hi Franek,
What do you mean by fake? The actual report or Chalupa's claim? Alex |
Re: RAF Combat Reports
Alex
I mean the report is fake. It is obvious but nonetheless I compared it to copy of actual Chalupa's report of the day. |
Re: RAF Combat Reports
I share Franek's doubts about both these reports. From notes I made on consulting the original documents in the AHB over 35 years ago there appear to be some curious inconsistencies in detail which trouble me. If these are still held by NA(PRO) at Kew someone can make a comparison.
However, if they are NOT now at Kew then the appropriate authorities should be informed. They have issued search warrants on my friends' collections before now on far less evidence than this. |

I am fully certain it is a fake. It is not Chalupa's signature - I have copies of his reports. |

Quote:
Just now I have read Czech translations of original war Combat reports. 1) Kaucky took part in two separate actions on the 15th and his claims were at 12.05 and at about 2.00 pm. 2) He claimed Do 215s. 3) The E-bay "report" is in a lot of details unlike the war report. Michal |
Re: RAF Combat Reports
Then, by all means, report this to the proper authorities.
On another subject, I read a lengthy article about a man who spends his time looking for fake expensive watches on eBay. Sadly, once a collectible reaches a point where it can be counterfeited for a cost below what it can be sold for, it will be. But this can occur at reputable auction houses as well. A friend of mine told a reputable auction house that a certain piece of artwork was not original but done by another studio. His claim was refuted, but later, he was proved correct. Ed |
