Oberleutnant Kurt Müller 4./Jagdgeschwader 26 “Schlageter” 1939
 

I am researching a Luftwaffe Soldbuch to a member of groundcrew who served in 4./JG26 (25-08-39 - 02-10-39)and the Soldbuch contains the signature of a 'Müller' who signed as Staffelkapitäin 4./JG26 however, that position was held by Oberleutnant 'Edu' Neumann at that time.

My question is whether the 'Müller' might be Kurt Müller, who I undestand was an Officer in 4./JG26 at that time? Also, was he signing as a qualified Staffelfuhrer?

Any help whatsoever will be gratefully received indeed.

I have a Kurt Müller with 10/JG 26 at the end of 1942 but prior to that, he was 2/JG 1, 8/JG 27 and JFS 2. What is your source?

I cannot recall the source as it was a considerable time ago that I first put any depth into the research, consequently I may have the information wrong, especially as you have him assigned elsewhere for the time period.

As a result, is anyone able to confirm any officer named Müller who might of held the position or was qualified as Staffelfuhrer 4./JG26 for the period 25-08-39 - 02-10-39?

According to Don Caldwell's full Casualty Lists we can find two Kurt Müller :

12/19/42 / Kurt Müller / Oblt. / KIA / Unit 10J CO / location : ENE of Deal / by Flak and Typhoon

and

8/15/44 / Kurt Müller / Fw. / KIA / Unit 5 / location : Rambouillet / by P-47

I made a guess on it being 'Kurt' however, are you able to unearth any other 'Müller' from the specified timeframe?

I´ve tried to find something about Oblt. Kurt Müller in Josef Priller´s book " Geschichte eines Jagdgeschwaders".

very strange I would say -

1.)
I´m wondering - from 2.11.38 - 23.9.39 Oblt. Eduard Edu Neumann was Staffelführer in 8./JG26 (II./JG26 unit 8)***

2.)
Oblt. Kurt Müller I only can find as Staffelführer of 10./JG26 (Jabo-Staffel) from 5.11.42 - 19.12.42

I think I was wrong. Because at the beginning of war a JG has only 3 Gruppen, each Gruppe has 3 Staffeln.
If Neumann was Staffelführer of unit 8 it means III./JG26 unit 8

23-September, III./Jagdgeschwader 26 “Schlageter” was formed, with 4./Staffel moving almost in total to become the 8./Staffel. Staffelkapitäin Oberleutnant ‘Edu’ Neumann was transferred to 8./Staffel, being replaced by Hauptmann Karl Ebbighausen.

I am still looking for a Muller who of held the Staffelfuhrer position in that time. Not 'Kurt' but who?
