German airfield to identify
Hi all,
Attached is a scan of the back of a picture of a He111 of KG254 taken in 1938. Can anyone decipher the name of the airfield? It looks like it starts with a H. Thanks in advance, Rudi. |
Re: German airfield to identify
Hi Rudi,
can´t decipher it, this handwriting is very superficial - but maybe here is a help : http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...ader/KG254.htm It shows where KG254 was in 1938. Maybe this writing means Gießen (Giessen) Cheers - Rainer |
Re: German airfield to identify
Hagen (Westphalia) I´d read this sloppy handwriting...

Re: German airfield to identify
There was a very small landing ground by the name of Hagen, but the landing area seems rather short for a He 111. Perhaps it was an emergency landing.
Hagen (GER) (51 21 10 N – 07 29 40 E) General: landing ground (Landeplatz) in North Rhine – Westphalia 16 km S of Dortmund and 4 km W of Hagen. History: used for glider training during the 1930’s but by May 1943 had been abandoned and returned to cultivation. Surface and Dimensions: moorland surface measuring approx. 365 x 90 meters (400 x 100 yards). [Sources: AFHRA A5257A; chronologies; BA-MA; NARA; PRO/NA; web site ww2.dk] |

I'm pretty sure Roland is right. Hagen it is.
