Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)

Was Peter Freiherr von Malapert, KIA on 11 September 1941, a next-of-kin to WWI ace Freiherr von Malapert-Neufville?

Thanks

Chris

From JFV by Prien "11.09.41 7./JG 54 Lt. Peter Frhr. von Malapert KG Luftkampf, Jan-Jedrowo, 100% Bf 109 F-2 #9686 ws. 1 +~ "

Hi

Lt. von Malapert was captured in a typycal Ostermann-Raid behind the russian lines, he was shot down from a gunner of a SB-2/3 Bomber.

Greetings Christian

Peter was not KIA, he survived the war. His brother, Robert-Georg, the famous Stuka ace, did not.

Thanks to all, but it's way off the mark.
I just want know if he was of the same family as the WWI ace.

Chris, I couldn't find a German ace from WW1 by that name in the book that I have on German aces.

Hello,

Having another question about the same pilot, I rather ressurect this thread rather than creating a new one.

The German loss list is giving the loss location as "Jan-Jedrowo", east of lake Ilmen. Could this be Yedrovo, Valdayskiy rayon, Novgorodskaya Oblast ?
http://www.maplandia.com/russia/novg...rayon/yedrovo/

It is the only location I could find in the JG 54 area, but it seems a little too far east for me, until Malapert was really flying a raid on Soviet far rear area.

Thanks in advance

Laurent

Laurent, since III/JG 54 was stationed at Dno on the 09Sep41 and went to "Siweskaja" on the 12Sep41 this was the closes point at the time of the loss. They were probably flying in support of the advance in the Demyansk area.

Malapert-Neufville returned after 6 year "Freizeit-Lager" so in 1947, it seems that the soviets used Malapert image, did he participate to...
There is an article about him on the Jägerblatt 09/92, his EKM 51576/24
