Odd Staffel Question..

Was there such a Luftwaffe unit called either "See Front Staffel 1" or "Sea Front Staffel 1"? Thanks.

No such animal. The closest to it would be:

Seejagdstaffel 1.
Formed 1 Oct 1934 with Ar 64s, Ar 65s and HD 38s by renaming Fliegerstaffel (J) Kiel-Holtenau. It existed for only a couple of months and then became Küstenfliegerstaffel (J) 1 at the end of 1934 or beginning of 1935.

Odd Staffel Question..

Hello Oberst

I do know that there was a Seefrontstaffel formed in September 1917 that on 1 August 1918 was divided into Seefrontstaffel 1 and Seefrontstaffel 2. These were respectively redesignated IV. Marine-Feld-Jagdstaffel and V. Marine-Feld-Jagdstaffel on 15 September 1918. Seefrontstaffel included a long-range reconnaissance unit which was redesignated See III on 15 September and later III. Marine-Feld-Flieger-Abteilung. I hope this information is accurate (do not be surprised if it is not) and helpful. So there was a Seefrontstaffel in World War I but apparently not in World War II.

Horrido!

Leo

Hello Leo!

Always a wealth of information you provide, as confirmed by National Archives Microfilm Publication T1022, reels 335-337, reels 401-402, reels 433-434 (Seeflugstations, MFJ units), reels 939-941, Tagesbefehlen des Befehlshabers der M-L-A 1.1.1916 – 30.Sep.1918. Many thanks :)

Hey Oberest! If you were looking for World War I information why didn't you say so? The German flying branch was not called the Luftwaffe in World War I, and Luftwaffe is what you asked for.

Re: Odd Staffel Question..

I wasn't looking for WWI information, just for WWII. My comment in post #4 was that I'm constantly amazed by Leo's information. And the information you all provide in general!

Thank you both very much for confirming no SEE in WWII. :)
