African claims of III./JG 53

Prien's book notes 3 Hurricanes claimed on 7 June 1942, not confirmed. Anyone knows anything about them? Thanks in advance.

Are you asking for the potential victims or the details of the claims?

Re: African claims of III./JG 53

Hi,
in my opinion, the Hurricanes were engaged in combat with 8 Mc202s of the 10th Gruppo Caccia (4th Stormo) who claimed 5 P40s at about 10:10 (British time) 10 Km E of Acroma (source: "Quelli del cavallino rampante - Storia del 4° stormo caccia". Antonio Duma).
Indeed, according to Shores, 12 Hurricanes of 73 Squadron took off at 9:30 for a sweep over Gazala - Acroma area.
The four Me109s of III/JG53 probably engaged 10 P40s of 260 Squadron and 8 P40s of 5 SAAF Squadron who took off at 10:30 for a bomber escort to Knighsbridge. May Frost claimed a Me109 probable and one P40 was damaged.
This would be confirmed by the fact that, according to Prien, the Me109s of III/JG53 encoutered a formation of 12 Bostons escorted by 15/20 fighters in the morning.
Best regards.
Marco

Re: African claims of III./JG 53

Hi all, thanks for your answers and excuse my delay.
I need, if possible, details on the claims.
I have Prien's Teil 8 II Mittelmeer Nov 41- Dec 42 (blue book).
Italian claims perfectly match the clash with 73 Sqn., but German claims could be in conflict with them.
In Priens book I couldn't see (but I don't read German) they were in the morning and against the escort of bombers. Marco, these two details would help. Did you see them in Prien's green books?
Thanks again.

Hi,
I saw the details in Prien's book "Jagdeschwader 53: A History of the Pik As Geschwader Volume 2: May 1942 - January 1944".
Hope this helps.
Regards

Marco
