Italian war grave databases online

This is a database showing Italian war graves (for at least WWI, WWII and Spain Civil War, for what I found). It will not show the unit of a casualty, but only his name, dates of birth and death, places of birth, death and burial.

The name is mandatory as a research criteria.

Some weeks ago we were on holidays on the beautiful island of Ischia (near Naples) at Lacco Ameno.

High above the town there is the cemetery, from where you have a nice view to the landscape and sea. By accident I had a look at a gravestone with a photo of a young man in uniform and the following text: " Nello Calise, Serg. Magg. Pilota. 28 Ottobre 1919 - 10 Marzo 1941".." Prode Cavaliere Aiato. Durissimo Eroe Dell`Aria....." ( made some photographs ).

I found his name also at the online database you mention:

The name CALISE is a prominent one there around. So we drank red wine called CALISE.

Does someone know more about Aniello and his fate?

Serg. Magg. pil. Calise, of the 18a Sq. BT (27° Gruppo, 8° Stormo BT) was part of the crew of a S.79 that crashed on that day just after the take off from Ciampino, bound for its homebase Alghero.

In the crash lost their lives Col. pil. Guido Bonini, the Stormo commander, and three "specialisti".

I have to add that the aircraft from 18a Sq. BT ; all the crew perished: Col Bonini; two pilots (one being Calise) and four "specialisti" (all six from 18a Sq. BT too) and one "operaio militarizzato".

As bonus for Laurent Rizzotti (I hope that he'll apprecciate it) I add that the aircraft MM was 21477.

The aircraft crashed from an altitude of about 300 metres after the take off from Roma- Ciampino Sud.

A pity reserach can´t be done just by birth place. I´d like to discover whether any Brasiliano flew on Regia Aeronautica in WW2...

I may add that Col. Bonini took part to three of Balbo's mass cruisers as co-pilot: East Mediterranean, Italia-Brasile and the Crociera del Decennale in 1933.
He flew in the Istres- Damasco - Parigi race as co-pilot in one of the two BR.20 that didn't manage to reach Paris.
